District Team Player
Development Program

The District Player Development Program identifies and trains Under-12 players who are interested in competing at an elite level.

The details of the District program are currently under review and will be finalized before the start of the new year.

The intention at this time is for the Under-12 teams to train over the summer and play games against other District teams.  Players may be scouted at any time to join the current team for training during the summer. The Huronia Under-12 teams will play in the Regional ID Tournament (usually in September) where they may be selected to train for the final Regional team.  The final Regional team will then compete against other Regions for a chance to join the Provincial Under-13 development squads.

The District Player Identification sessions are a scouting and coaching tool used to identify the most talented young players and introduce them to High Performance Training for a future career in soccer.

The Regional Program identifies youth players at the U12 Male and Female Age Groups.  Each of seven Regions selects a group of players to a squad from their various District teams. The Regional Program will serve as the second level in the player identification process.

Later in the year, Under-12 Regional Teams attend ID Sessions that bring all the squads together to play in a tournament.  All players are scouted by Provincial Team Staff and a group of players are selected to train at the Provincial Training Center in preparation for future National Championships, International Tours and Provincial Teams.

Each Regional Team assembles a group of players that train over the winter and summer, and play exhibition games against other Regional, District or Club teams of different age groups. Players involved in the Regional Program at Under 12 still play for a Club team.

Further clarification of the program and the dates for the various tournaments will be posted at this location as they become available

I’m pleased to announce the new Huronia District Development Program that will be implemented during the summer of 2006.  The development program will target player development starting at the Under 8 (born 1998) and younger level.  Support for player development will continue for the next four years culminating in tryouts for the District Team at the Under 12 (born 1995) and younger level.  The prime goal of this program is: to provide the opportunity for players in Huronia District to advance as far as they are able in the game of soccer.

A committee was formed at the HDSA Annual General Meeting (Nov. 12, 2005) that was charged with creating a long-range plan for the development of players within our District.  Volunteers from several clubs participated in an all-day meeting in which the details of this program were finalized.  The meeting was extremely productive thanks to the outstanding display of cooperation and non-partisan dialogue that occurred.

The program will operate under the following parameters:

·   open to all U8 players (born 1998) that are registered with Clubs within the Huronia District,

·   no cost to the participants at this introductory level,

·   participants must remain committed to their house league teams,

·   sessions will begin the 1st weekend in June (3/4) and continue until mid-September,

·   all training sessions will occur on weekends,

·   there will be a minimum of one training session in each Area every two weeks,

·   a festival style tournament will be organized in mid-September,

·   all games will be played 7v7 on a 40x60 yd. pitch,

·   no standings will be maintained.

Operational Details of the program are:

·  a Head Coach will be assigned to oversee the operation of the entire program within the District; his/her prime focus is to ensure the consistent delivery of coaching information to all players,

·  six Areas have been created within the District,

·  each Area will be assigned an Area Head Coach that will be charged with delivering the content specified by the Head Coach,

·  the Area Head Coach will be encouraged to use appropriately qualified coaches from within their area to assist with the delivery of the sessions,

·  the six Areas have been defined as:

A.  Tottenham, Alliston, Essa,

B.  Barrie, Springwater,

C.  Bradford, Cookstown, Innisfil,

D.  Bracebridge, Huntsville, Gravenhurst, West Muskoka, Humphrey, Parry Sound,

E.  Orillia, Ramara, Oro-Medonte, (possibly Warminster**),

F.  Collingwood, Wasaga Beach, Clearview, (possibly Midland**).

**Clubs must register with the District to participate**

.     all training sessions must be hosted in rotation at ALL the participating Clubs within the area,

e.g. Area C must have Session 1 in Bradford, Session 2 in Cookstown, Session 3 in Innisfil, etc.,

·     Head Coach will have a minimum Provincial B license,

·     Area Head Coach minimum requirement is attendance at a Pre-B clinic.

 Secondary Goals of the program:

·         foster the creation of a strong base of qualified and informed coaches within the various areas of the District,

·         support the viability of the “A” loop in the Simcoe County Youth Soccer League at the U9 level for the 2007 season,

·         create a solid base of coaches and players for a competitive level within the District at the U10 level for the 2008 season.

The prime learning years for youth in sports is between the ages of 8 and 12.  The challenges of the large geographical area encompassed by our District are being minimized by this program, and it promises to deliver a high quality of consistent coaching to our young players at the best possible age.
